Moonsong Malamute Rescue (MMR) is not a shelter or humane society. We are a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to assisting Alaskan Malamutes and their owners when in crisis throughout the Intermountain West. We are affiliated with a 501 (c) 3 organization, the Alaskan Malamute Assistance League (AMAL), which is the national rescue organization recognized by the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. As an affiliate, MMR operates under AMAL's code of ethics. Tax deductible donations can be made to our organization through AMAL. Just make sure to specify Moonsong Malamute Rescue on your payment. We offer educational material about the Alaskan Malamute breed, can assist in resolving containment issues, are able to help an owner with appropriately re-homing their Malamute when necessary, and provide behavioral issues support in the form of referrals to trainers and other more experienced Malamute owners. We also raise funds which can be made available to help Malamute owners keep their dogs during short term crises such as a job loss or medical emergencies. These funds are also used to help care for Malamutes with adoptable personalities who have been pulled from shelters, or who have been seized by authorities after having been abandoned, neglected, or abused.
Please note that it is our policy to only adopt out to applicants from Idaho or our neighboring states of Montana, Wyoming and Nevada, where no Malamute rescue organization is yet established. We also work closely with our affiliate in Utah when they don't have this wonderful breed available. If you are not within these 5 states, then please contact the Malamute rescue in your state where there are undoubtedly many rescue Mals in need of homes. Please see a listing of affiliate rescues here.
MMR is growing, and needs foster homes and volunteers to help care for our charges, so if you would like to help with MMR's efforts, please see our Foster Program and Volunteer sections. Also be aware that in addition to the always welcome cash donation, we are very pleased to accept donations of large dog equipment to help house our charges, and are happy to accept other items of value that can be raffled or auctioned to benefit our rescue efforts.
It is our hope that potential volunteers and successful adopters will want to assist in any or all of these activities to the level they feel able, but we are also happy to just have you drop in from time to time to tell us how you and your own Mallies are doing. Because we operate the rescue out of our home, please do call and make an appointment to visit us. We just know you will want to take a Mally home with you!!!

Hi, my name is Copper. I am a smaller red and white boy, about 4 years old. I was pulled from a shelter in North Idaho on my last day. I am friendly with people, and okay with non aggressive female dogs. No cats, livestock, or children under 10. I have a sweet but playful disposition, and like attention. I appear to be housebroken, and know the commands sit, down, and bow! I ride very well in a car and walk nice on a leash. I like toys and will play with them by myself, running hither and yon flinging them in the air, but can also fetch them for you. (Check out my video!) I am current on inoculations, micro chipped, and neutered. I am so ready for a new home, please contact MMR and arrange to meet me! Read and see more...
