Can't adopt but see one that tugs your heartstrings? You can still help!
Our Mallies need your time and attention (for walking, play time, grooming)! Donations of equipment such as large dog houses, 10' x 6' kennel panels, leashes, collars, and warm blankets are also appreciated. Moonsong Malamute Rescue (MMR) is now a bona fide, federally recognized non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to assisting Alaskan Malamutes and their owners when in crisis throughout the Intermountain West. Please be aware that Moonsong Malamute Rescue (MMR) is not a shelter or humane society. We are affiliated with the Alaskan Malamute Assistance League (AMAL), which is the national rescue organization recognized by the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. As an affiliate to AMAL, MMR operates under AMAL's code of ethics.
We offer educational material about the Alaskan Malamute breed, can assist in resolving containment issues, are able to help an owner with appropriately re-homing their Malamute when necessary, and provide behavioral issues support in the form of referrals to trainers and other more experienced Malamute owners. These funds are also used to help care for Malamutes with adoptable personalities who have been pulled from shelters, or who have been seized by authorities after having been abandoned, neglected, or abused.
Please note that it is our policy to only adopt out to applicants from Idaho or our neighboring states of Montana, Wyoming, and Nevada, where no Malamute rescue organization is yet established. We also work very closely with Arctic Breeds Rescue in Utah and will adopt out to that state as well. If you are not within these 5 states, then please contact the Malamute rescue in your state where there are undoubtedly many rescue Mals in need of homes. Please see a listing of affiliate rescues here.
