Miss Smokie

Hi there, my name is Smokie. I am a mostly Malamute--with a little bit of something else (maybe German Shepherd?). Nobody knows for sure by looking, but I act more like a hunting dog or sight hound than a Mal (crazy to retrieve and play with toys), and am too tall and delicate in my head and build to be 100% Mal. I am seeking a new family to love. My human Daddy was tragically killed in an accident a few years ago. A nice rescue took me in and has been looking after me, but I really need a family that is just my own. I am beautiful, with a lovely tri-colored coat, and have more energy than many dogs half my age. I love toys and running and playing, and will throw and catch my own balls. If you ask, I will even throw toys to you to throw back! I like to go with you everywhere, walk nice on a leash, and do a great trick where I can stand on my hind legs and beg all at the same time, so not bad for an old lady, eh?

I am very good with older children (ages 10 and up) and all adults. I am completely house trained, spayed, micro chipped, up to date on all my vaccinations, and am only destructive to balls and toys with squeakers in them. I REALLY love playing with toys, walks and treats, in that order. No kitty-cats please, they are enemies to be eliminated and are not safe around me! I would do best as an only pet. I do have an extreme fear of thunder storms, or sounds that resemble thunder like fireworks, but do fine if not confined to small spaces when the noise is happening (maybe you could hug me some?). Please come by and meet me, I know if you do that you will fall in love with me. After all, what's not to like (other than the cat thing, I mean)? You get all the benefits of a puppy, but none of the work, and I need so much to be able to love a family of my very own once again. I eagerly await your call...

UPDATE: Smokie is now 13. She is still spry, healthy, and active, and we would like to find a committed long term home for her, especially if you are just seeking a companion dog. Please contact MMR for an application.
