Here's what the shelter writes about Mya: "While browsing through the Bozeman Daily Chronicle today, HOV staff came across the following personal ad that we believe was secretly submitted by Mya.
Leader of the Pack
Single, black and white, female is in search of her forever home. I am a clean, independent and somewhat hard headed girl with lots of love (and fur) to spare. I have a history of escaping from yards and I will need secure containment in yours so that I can be the best dog I can be. I like long leash walks with someone that can keep up with me, mature children (no kids under 12 please!) and a good bowl of kibble after a long day. I dislike cats, other dogs that try to boss me around, and cats. Oh, did I mention I don't like cats? I am a strong alpha female who would really benefit from an active, dog savvy owner who is familiar with the malamute breed. I could get along with another male or female dog in my new home, but I like to be in charge. I'm a bossy girl and I know it! Those with an interest in skijoring or weight pulling are highly encouraged to respond to this personal ad. If I sound like the kind of girl you could share your heart and your home with then stop by Heart of the Valley so that we can be properly introduced!"

Hi, my name is Copper, and I am a Chow-a-Mute. I was found wandering alone in the streets, and when Animal Control picked me up, they called the number assigned to my micro chip. My people told them they had never heard of me! Not only was I heartbroken, but thus began a very harrowing period where it was whispered that if I was not adopted, I would be sold to a vet school, and they would do experiments on me. As my time ticked away, I was afraid I might spend my last days strapped to a table being tortured. Then a lady came, saying she was with Moonsong. I sing at the moon, and I told them so, and so they took me away. Now I am not all Mal, but I am a dapper red and white gentleman with a sweet and playful disposition. I love, love, love to go for rides in the car, so why don’t you hop in yours and cruise on over to meet me? I do load up and ride very nicely, so you might just like to take me along! I have been at the Moonsong rescue kennels for 3 years now, and it’s time for someone to take me out for a test drive and discover how sweet and affectionate I really am. I want to know again what it’s like to go for Sunday drives, just you, me, and the wind in my fur! I’ve been dreaming about the day I get out of my kennel and into your heart (and your SUV) for that ride to my fur-ever home. And maybe, when we’re not out exploring the highways and byways together, you could play fetch with me ‘cause I also like toys so much that I will even play with them by myself (check out my video). I am housebroken, and know the commands sit, down, paw, and bow. I walk nicely on a leash and of course load up in the car. I have only two faults, I need to be the King of my new domain, so I won’t do well with other pets, and I am on a low dose of Soloxine for a mild thyroid condition. Please make my dreams of car rides and a loving home of my own come true, I have been waiting for oh so long.

Hi! My name is Celestial Cleopatra Star, or Cleo for short and boy, do I need my stars to align! I have been in rescue for a very long time and I long for a happy new home with someone who really will love me as much as I will love you back. I can melt your heart when I gaze at you with my twinkle-y brown eyes and whisper sweet woo-woo’s in your ear. I love veggie snacks, tummy rubs, walks, lazy Sundays, playing in the water, or lying on the lawn gazing up at the stars I was named for with you. I am very spry for an older gal and I still love to rough house. I even still play bow to try and get you to chase me. If that’s not spry, I don’t know what is! I would probably be happiest as an only pet but may be okay with a VERY mellow male companion and will need careful introductions to other dogs. Will I spend the rest of my days watching the younger Mallies get their new humans while I am left behind just because I’m a little older, or are you the one that knows that love is what matters, no matter how long we might be able to share it?

Hi! My name is Oreo and I am a malamute/sneaky neighbor dog mix. I am a very active mature girl (around 10) who loves the water and going for walks. I adore affection, so keep the tummy rubs coming! I am living with a great foster family that includes other dogs and kids. I really like children and other dogs, especially since they both like to play! I spend time with my foster dad at his work, attend human ball games at the park, and I jog a few days a week with my foster family. I get do all these things because I am a very well behaved lady; I even graduated from an obedience class. I love chewing on big beef knuckles, and I never turn away a carrot. I am very smart and am eager to start learning new tricks. I am also house trained and crate trained. I lived with a purebred malamute my whole life who taught me how to sing to sirens. Do you need a co-pilot on a road trip? I’m your girl! Do you need a great walking or jogging partner? I’m your girl! Camping or hiking? Count me in! The vet says I am in “great shape” and based on my energy and zest for life, he would guess me to be much younger. I have lots of love and years to share, please consider sharing your life with me.

Take a look at those twinkly eyes folks; they belong to ME, Miss Maia! I am just a little over a year old bundle of fun and affection. I have a very sweet disposition, and I really like people. In my prior life, I was not taught many boundaries. But I have been learning and am getting really good at "sit" and "down". Sit is something I need to do whenever I want to go through the door outside to chase the squirrels, so I am good at remembering that one! I get along just fine with the other female Mal in my foster home. We can play and run around and go on squirrel patrol. I will need some kind of friendly playmate in my new home. I love to take walks and am pretty good on leash. My foster mom will treat me when the leash is loose, so I am learning that trick pretty quick. I am a bit reactive when I see new dogs on walks, but we are working on that. We are also working on my greeting skills with humans. I just get so excited I want to rush right up and get my face close enough to give them a big lick on their face! I really like the snow and am good at pulling up the trail, so I would love to do more ski-joring with my new family. I've also trotted next to the bike for exercise when the snow is gone. I am nice and mellow inside and not destructive, but I prefer to be on squirrel watch outside with my other Mallie friend. One of my favorite places to chill out inside is under the dining room table and I am also crate trained. I would do best in a home with older children over 12. Will you consider taking me home and loving me forever? I dream of being with my new forever friend, I just can’t picture the face yet….. Is it you?

Are you looking for love in the all the wrong places? Well, look no more – you’ve found Ringo! I am a stunning 4 year old male Malamute and it would be an understatement to say, “I loves my peeps!” I’m not saying that I ooze charm but somehow everyone who meets me seems to fall in love with me! I am exuberant but not out of control thanks to my foster family who is working with me to develop some boundaries. I also have long legs that were just made for running so if you are a cyclist, I would be the perfect bike-joring buddy. If you don’t own a bike that’s ok too as long as you have lots of tread left on your sneaks! For those post-workout cool-down strolls to the coffee shop, I do pretty well on a leash too. Once I’ve got a good run under my belt, just give me a place to curl up and I’ll hang out calmly the rest of the day. At night, I really like to be able to hop up on the bed and sleep with you so you’ll have to be okay with doggie breath on your face and a bit of fuzz on the bedspread. Recently I have been bounced around from home to home and landed in a shelter twice – once in Idaho and once in Colorado through no fault of my own. I have a long history for such a young guy but none of that has jaded me in the least. I also might like a mellow female doggie companion but she has to be pretty easy going. I have to be honest, I don’t much care for the alpha types and I’m not very interested in socializing with other dogs – especially when there are people to hang out with! Finally, you are going to have to have a really good fence. I’m so athletic that a little 4-footer ain’t gonna keep me in when I feel the urge to stretch out my legs. I am currently in foster care in Tetonia, Idaho. So, if you have what it takes to keep up with me, send in your application. I am housetrained, neutered and up to date on my shots.

Hello world! My name is Griz and I have somehow lost my home! I am about 5.5 years old, so losing something as important as a home is strange. However, I did find Moonsong Malamute Rescue and they are assisting me in finding a new home since I did such a thorough job of losing my old one. I have all the fine qualities of Malamutes. I love people. I have selective hearing. I am beautiful. I love food. I love to walk. I consider myself above discipline. However, a few of these typical traits, I am finding out are not so good to have. This new person, my foster mom, she keeps telling “no” and she won’t feed me her food all the time. Doesn’t she understand that I deserve it? I am a Malamute after all!
Anyway, I love people. I especially like people with food! While I wait to be given my food and would not stoop to taking out of a human’s hand without an invitation, all food that I can reach and is not claimed by a human in attendance is fair game. I am just making sure it doesn’t spoil! I like children, but prefer the older ones that can reach more treats for me.
I am a curious boy and I would really like to sniff and play with a cat. I am making it my life’s goal to get my foster mom’s cat. She is making this a bigger challenge than I thought it would be. That darn cat fits under anything and everything!! I am vigilant though. I will not give up!
The only time I am not on cat patrol is when I get to go for walks or rides! I love to stick my head out the window and smell all the wonderful things in the world. I am a little restless in the car, so my foster mom straps me to keep me contained. That’s ok, she rolls the window down too and it’s almost as nice. If I can’t have a ride, I really like to walk and sniff everything around me. I do have a bad hip so I prefer shorter walks more often. My foster mom tells me I have mild hip dysplasia in my left hip so I need to lose weight. I’m not sure how I am going to do that when my foster mom keeps feeding me people food like green beans and carrots. Please don’t tell her that people food is bad for dogs on a diet!!
Griz is a typical Mal with all the typical traits and faults. He is a stubborn boy that seems to have had little to no discipline in his life. He will need an experienced home to teach him the do’s and don’ts. He currently weighs about 100 pounds and needs to lose at least 15 of it and convert more of that into muscle. He is an adorable chunk of a dog. He is sweet and loves to talk in his raspy voice. His hip dysplasia has just been discovered and a treatment plan is still evolving. Surgery is not currently needed and with weight management and supplements, this may avoided entirely or at least for some years. He has no other health issues and is current on his vaccinations.

Howdy doody, I’m a cutey! Ha, sorry about that, I couldn’t resist. Okay, I’ll try to be serious. My name is Chaske (pronounced ‘chah-skay). It means ‘first son’ in Sioux. I think it’s a pretty awesome name, especially since the silly humans keep coming up with names that start with ‘M’. I like to color outside the box, you know. Speaking of color, check out my reddish coat! I’m pretty good looking, don’t you think? With some brushing and bathing and good daily meals, I could be the best lookin’ dog on the block!
I came to this really nice place where my foster mom has lots and lots of other dogs around. The other dogs don’t interest me much and I’d really rather be with my people. I am very people oriented, and have a cute play bow, and I sit nicely for my treats (boy do I like my treats)! I am a little exuberant about my meal times, (you would be too, if you’d missed as many as I did), but I will get better about this with time.
I am still like a playful puppy, sometimes I get a little too excited so my humans think I would do best in a home with older children (over 8). They are recommending I be an only dog. I’m high energy, and need to be kept busy with fun things like running, or biking, or I’d even like to learn to pull for you! Maybe we could learn the sport of skijoring together, wouldn’t that be fun? But I would especially like to have you all to myself! Do you have a spot in your home for me?
Like all Moonsong dogs, Chaske is neutered and up to date on all inoculations.

Hello, my name is Jack! I’m a very lively and playful young boy, a little over 2 years old. I was turned in to rescue because my prior family said they didn’t have time for me any more. I’ve had a hard time understanding this, but now that I am in rescue a lot of people have been letting me know they care a lot!
My foster family calls me Jumpin’ Jack Flash! I am very athletic and yes, indeed I can jump! A tall, securely fenced yard will be mandatory with me. One of the things my old family didn’t have time for was to make sure I had plenty to eat. So, you can call me Jumpin’ Jack Flash, but whatever you do, don’t call me late for dinner! My new foster mom is doing her best to get some weight on my body. I am a tall boy, and really should weigh around 85 pounds, but I don’t right now. I heard my foster mom say that as soon as I have gained some weight she is taking me in to be neutered. I am sure that was a Freudian slip, she obviously meant to say ‘tutored’. Humans are always making those little mistakes. By the way, I am current on all my shots; and micro-chipped too. UPDATE: Well, my nose is really out of joint. She wasn’t kidding about the surgery! I’ve gained some weight too; in fact I look rather dashing. I had a small injury on my right ear, and the vet trimmed it while I was sleeping. In my opinion I’m the best looking dog on the place. Once I am completely healed from the surgery, my foster family plans to really start teaching me good stuff, they say I am smart.
I have a little bit of a pushy attitude toward other dogs, and it might be misinterpreted. But my foster mom thinks I could get along great with another mellower female as a friend, plus now that I’m a little lighter in the back end, my attitude will be better. I’ll need a home without cats, and no small children. I know some basic commands, and I am housetrained. I am a loyal boy; I just want to be a part of someone’s home… forever. Would you consider making me yours?
Jack is a sweet boy, as we learn more about him in the next few weeks, we’ll update his info. He is already gaining some weight and has settled in to our household routine. Wow, can he jump. Jack-in-the-box is a good nickname for him! He is camera shy and I have not been able to get a real good facial shot of him. I’ll keep trying!

KAYA - Updated Pics!

Hello! My name is Kaya and I am new at Moonsong. I am a very sweet people loving malamute. I love to go for my walks to check out my favorite trees and bushes (just to make sure they are still mine). I lost my first family when they were no longer able to care for my needs. My heart is a little broken right now, but I know what I need to feel better – a family to call my own! My foster mom says that I am a bit anxious at first in a new place and when I get left alone (unless it is part of my routine). I am 6 years old and I am a perfect lady; I am house trained, like other mellow large dogs, if properly and slowly introduced, but I am just happy to be with my people and not share them with anyone else, too. I have polite people manners (but I do like to give my special people big bear hugs). Ideally I would find a home that wants to include me in all their day to day activities. I walk well on leash and know some basic commands. I am a typical malamute though and tend to think small animals are squeaky toys. Since I have a high prey drive I need a family with older children, without cats and no small dogs. I am a special, soulful malamute that needs a human buddy that will walk me and spend time playing malamute games!

I see that you are looking for the perfect Malamute. Well, here I am! Yours truly – Smokey – the awesomest dog everrrrrr!!!! OK so my foster home thinks I’m pretty great but I bet you will, too. I’ve got flop ears and a super-duper disposition. I am good around other dogs - did ya see all my dog buddies in my photos? I might possibly even be ok with cats if they are dog savvy - no guarantees, tho. I even think I like little rug-rat human kids – go figure! ? I mostly love to play and I’m one of those “happy all the time” types. So, if that outlook on life doesn’t annoy you - I’m looking for an equally positive and active home to match my innate “Joie de Vie”. Even if you don’t speak French you have to know that I love, love, love life even after having to live on a chain for most of it! I could be a good first dog for a family that’s new to the northern breeds since I’m not as much of a handful as most. Can you say “Ambassador Smokey?” And, like all Malamutes, I LUV U! Well, not just you, but all people – see there’s my unabashed optimism again. Cheers!

Hi, my name is Rourke! I am a sweet BIG teddy bear of a boy who somehow ended up on my own and picked up by animal control. My people never came for me, so Moonsong took me in and said they would find a new family to love me. I am calm and gentle, around 3-4 years old. I enjoy car rides, walks, people, other dogs, and food, though not necessarily in that order! I know the commands “sit” and “down,” but do have a bit of selective hearing at times. I also know to walk nice on lead, but prefer to walk out front instead of at heel. I was house trained at some point, but may need some reminding in that department. Like all of Moonsong’s rescues, I am neutered, micro chipped, and current on inoculations. I am seeking a home that wants an oversized love bug to make part of the family, someone who would take me on walks and hikes, maybe biking or skijoring? Who is up for a big fluffy bundle of love in their life?

Howdie, I'm Keea! I am a large, sweet, 4 year old female Malamute that just loves people, including the small varieties. As you can tell from my pictures, I've got the Malamute lean down pretty good and I always enjoy a belly rub. My owners hate to give me up - I've lived with them my whole life, but I've gotten into some livestock close by and also taken after some cats. They are having a hard time keeping me contained and want to find a safer place for me to live. When it's cold weather or really hot outside, I like to come in and snuggle on the couch or lay across the air conditioner vent. I like to get snacks at night and my favorite place to drink water is from the toilet. I walk nicely on leash and like to play with other friendly dogs. I'm really quite mellow, but also very playful. I've heard that I am smart and willing to please - it must be true because I know things like "sit", "come" and "leave it". I can even give you a "high five"! I am house trained, spayed and up to date on my inoculations. Can you be my new best friend and take me home with you?

Hi, my name is Lumikki. I am a friendly, handsome seven year old all white malamute mix about 75 pounds. My mom was a Husky/Karelian Bear Dog and my father was a Malamute. I have lived with my owner since I was a puppy, but now I’m looking for a new home. I just love people, and like to talk and have been told I am a fun loving self assured character. For fun, I love to go on walks and get out to sniff and explore. I also really enjoy car rides. I’m a very active boy and enjoy swimming, jogging with my human and bike and ski-joring. I know my basic obedience commands and am crate and house trained. I get along just fine with the other female dog in our home and would probably do well in a home with another mellow female dog about my size. No cats, please! I haven’t been around young children much so would do best in a home where the children are older (12 and up). I can be pretty protective of my yard and reactive to new dogs I meet, so I will need someone who is willing to keep me secure in my yard and careful about how I meet other dogs. I am neutered, micro-chipped, healthy and current on immunizations. If you’re looking for a handsome, active partner to spend time with, please do get in touch!
A travelling crate and/or large steel wire crate and ski-joring harness can be included.
Lumikki is with his owners in Billings, MT. Moonsong is assisting with the placement of Lumikki, so please fill out our adoption application if you are interested in this sweet boy. You can also contact rescue@moonsongmals.org for more information.

One of our volunteers went to meet Keyni, take some pics of him and take him for a walk. (Thank you Steve!) Here is what he said about Keyni: "Keyni is, as advertised, a very nice boy. I took him from the shelter staff just as they were bringing him back in from a walk. He is very easy to handle on lead. He is also very alert and interested in the world around him as he goes for a walk. But as I said, he is easy to handle, even when close to other dogs. While walking him, I decided that he is very aloof, much like a Siberian. He wasn’t giving me the time of day, Siberian-style! Once I brought him back inside and got into his kennel with him, he was more focused on me than when we were outside. Yes, he was focused on me, because he wanted me to take him back outside for more walking! Very sweet boy. I walked him around all the dog kennels, and he showed interest in the other dogs, but no aggression whatsoever. He also was interested and friendly to people we passed inside the kennel area. I really have no idea what he is crossed with. Very nice, thick Arctic-breed coat. He’s a nice, sweet dog. There you have it in a nutshell." I think "sweet" was used how many time to describe this boy? :-)
