Phoenix Fund

We have raised $400.00 toward our Phoenix Fund goal of $2000.00.

To all of you who contributed toward the care of Phoenix, the Tooele, Utah, shelter Malamute, we are very grateful for your financial contributions and other support.  It is with a heavy heart, however, that we must report that we will be unable to help Phoenix.  The day rescue was to have picked Phoenix up from the shelter, his owners showed up and demanded his return.  Even though Phoenix was only alive past his 3-day limit because rescue had agreed to take him, the shelter saw fit to return him to his owners instead.  This was a heart breaking turn of events for us, as you can well imagine from seeing his photos.  We so wanted to help, and were instead deterred at the last minute by the very people responsible for his condition.  We do not agree with the shelter’s choice in this matter, but have no alternative.

Because of the dilemma we faced with Phoenix, that of not having the necessary funds in hand to care for a Malamute with extreme medical needs, Moonsong Malamute Rescue and Arctic Breeds Rescue has decided to set up an emergency fund, named the Phoenix Fund, for future Malamutes in crisis.  We have contacted all the donors via email about whether they would like us to return their donation or credit it to this fund instead.  They have all graciously told us to use their donations for the Phoenix Fund.

Again, we thank all the donors for their efforts to help us save this poor sweet soul.

Phoenix head shot.
Phoenix was picked up as a stray by Tooele, Utah Animal Control. Due to his condition, they had planned to put him down as soon as his 3 days were up.

MMR and our affiliate in Utah, Arctic Breeds Rescue, were informed about him by a local rescue worker, so attempts were made to help with his medical care and eventual rescue.
